SHS To Be Expanded From Three To Six Years– Minister Of Education Reveals

The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that it will soon seek approval from Parliament to expand the Second Cycle Institution or Senior High Schools (SHS) from three to six years.

Speaking at the 60th Anniversary celebration of Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, the Education minister indicated that this expansion will help students to be well prepared before their final exams.

According to him, the SHS concept that is currently in Ghana was borrowed from westerners who had facilities like a well equipped library and science lab which is not the case for this country.

Dr Osei Adutwum further indicated that the expansion will be done by amending the Pre Tertiary Education Act which stipulates that the Junior High School forms part of Basic Education in Ghana.

He added that the expansion will also help in reforming Ghana’s basic education in other to create a competitive educational system across the globe
