BECE UPDATES: GES Announces 2024 School Selection Process

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the commencement of the school selection process for the 2024 academic year. The exercise is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, August 28th to Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. This period will be critical for parents, guardians, and students across the country as they select schools for placement into Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical Institutes.

GES has emphasized the importance of parental involvement in this process. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the school selection process to ensure that the choices made are well-informed and align with the academic aspirations and potential of their wards. Active involvement will contribute significantly to a smoother placement process, reducing the chances of any discrepancies or dissatisfaction later.

In a bid to enhance transparency and accuracy in the placement process, GES will provide an opportunity for candidates to confirm their selected schools via a text message short code before the actual placement is finalized. This initiative is designed to allow candidates and their families to review their choices and make any necessary adjustments before the final placement is conducted. Details regarding the short code and the confirmation process will be communicated shortly by the GES.

To ensure the integrity of the school selection process, officers from GES Headquarters will be dispatched to observe the exercise across various regions. This oversight is intended to maintain the fairness and transparency of the process, ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity to secure placement in their preferred schools.

GES has directed all Regional Directors of Education to disseminate information regarding the school selection exercise to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, as well as Examination Officers and other relevant stakeholders within their jurisdictions. This communication is vital to ensure that all parties involved are adequately informed and prepared for the upcoming selection process.

The management of GES remains committed to ensuring a seamless and efficient school placement process for all candidates. Parents, guardians, and students are encouraged to stay informed and engaged throughout the selection period.

For further updates and details on the school selection process, including the text message confirmation, stakeholders are advised to stay tuned to official communications from GES.
